New Hanover County

Wilmington

Wilmington’s appeal stems from one major thing: location. Nestled between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll find a quiet hometown community that loves to get out on the water. If you enjoy relaxing on the beach, soaking in the warm sunrays, and the occasional fishing adventure, then you’ll love Wilmington.

Wrightsville Beach

Upon entering the town of Wrightsville Beach is the tiny isle known as Harbor Island, which includes Wrightsville Beach Town Hall and Park, full-service marinas, dry and wet docks and housing that ranges from townhomes to quaint Craftsman style homes. Harbor Island connects to Wrightsville Beach over the sparkling waters of Banks Channel. Here on this four mile stretch of beach, the resort-style amenities of Wrightsville Beach will unfold before your eyes. With less than 3,000 year-round residents, one can easily imagine what it’s like to own a piece of paradise!

Carolina Beach

Carolina Beach is located on a slip of land called Pleasure Island about 30 minutes south of downtown Wilmington on Carolina Beach Road. The town has about 5,000 year-round residents and a family atmosphere with a vintage 1950s feel. The boardwalk with its arcades and shops selling ice cream, fudge and beach toys is a lively spot in summer as is the lake in the town center where pedal boat rentals are available. Nearby, Carolina Beach State Park offers camping, fishing, hiking and picnicking, but watch out for the carnivorous Venus flytraps…the plants grow wild here!

Kure Beach

South of Carolina Beach is Kure Beach, this area is well known as the newer more upscale area of Pleasure Island. With a year-round population of about 1,500 residents, Kure Beach manages to retain its quaint, family oriented atmosphere. The Kure Beach area is bustling with rapid development, small beach cottages are intermingled with magnificent newly built luxury homes and condominiums. The area has a variety of small shops and restaurants to complete the coastal living experience.

Historic Downtown Wilmington

Wilmington’s Historic District offers many amenities that make living in the area a pleasant experience. Serving as the cultural center for the region, it houses major arts and cultural facilities, such as Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts, along with many private art galleries. The Community Arts Center provides programs and facilities in all the arts. A beautiful riverwalk and riverfront park function as focal points for many downtown activities, as well as the main stage for outdoor entertainment events throughout the year.

Hampstead

Whether it’s the ages-old oak trees that blanket the community or the quiet roads that run along the edge of the Intracoastal Waterway, Hampstead, “the Seafood Capital of the Carolinas,” is truly a special place. For many years, Hampstead was just a small town along the northern route out of Wilmington. But over the past decade, this once-quiet fishing village has come alive, becoming a top destination for those looking to relocate to the Cape Fear region.

Leland

Leland is fast becoming known as one of southeastern North Carolina’s gems. New residents and businesses are flocking to Leland because of the town’s abundant natural beauty highlighted by the Brunswick River and Sturgeon Creek, small town atmosphere and enormous economic potential. With its warm climate, low tax rate, beautiful natural amenities and strategic location providing convenient access to Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, Southport and area beaches, Leland is and will continue as the place to be in southeastern North Carolina.

Southport

This fishing town, which is situated at the confluence of the Cape Fear River, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Atlantic Ocean, is located just 30 minutes south of Wilmington. Southport’s downtown is full of historic homes, huge live oaks, antique shops, art galleries, activities, parks and restaurants. The area is home to the North Carolina 4th of July Festival and the U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament.

Oak Island

Comprised of the Town of Oak Island and Caswell Beach, Oak Island is 24 miles south of Wilmington. Stretching 19 square miles with 14 miles of sandy beaches, Oak Island offers opportunities for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boating, beach combing, bird watching or just relaxing with sand between your toes! The coastal landscape is dotted with homes and quaint beach rentals, not high-rise hotels and condos.

Bald Head Island

Located two miles off the coast of Southport, Bald Head Island can be reached only by passenger ferry or private vessel. Amid the island’s 12,000 acres, you’ll find 10,000 untouched acres of beach, marsh and maritime forest preserves. You will also find ‘Old Baldy’ Lighthouse; built in 1817, it is the oldest standing lighthouse in North Carolina. Beautiful homes and charming neighborhoods respect the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Topsail Island

Stretching 26 miles in length and between 500 and 1,500 feet in width, the barrier island of Topsail Island contains the communities of North Topsail Beach, Surf City, and Topsail Beach.
